Terry Johnson Director

Terry Johnson's work has been performed all over Great Britain and worldwide. He is the recipient of nine major British theatre awards, including the Olivier Award Best Comedy 1994 and 1999, Playwright of the Year 1995, Critics’ Circle Best New Play 1995, two Evening Standard Theatre Awards, Writers’ Guild Best Play 1995 and 1996, the Mayer-Whitworth Award 1993 and the John Whiting Award 1991.

In recent years he has had nine productions running in the West End: Rain Man, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Hitchcock Blonde, Entertaining Mr Sloane, The Graduate, Dead Funny, Hysteria, Elton John’s Glasses, The Memory of Water and Whipping It Up which transferred from the Bush. He recently directed La Cage aux Folles at the Menier Chocolate Factory, which transferred to the Playhouse and will open on Broadway in 2010. Terry is also literary associate at the Royal Court where he last directed Joe Penhall’s Dumb Show and Piano/Forte.

He has written and directed television drama that has been broadcast worldwide, most recently Not Only but Always for C4, which won five international award nominations, Best Film at Banff, and a Bafta for Rhys Ifans.
